Kateryna and Havrylo
Growing up in Canada, many of us find ourselves identifying with multiple heritages. For those of us who grew up on the Prairies, many of us have ancestors who came from the Ukraine. Even if your background is the farthest from Eastern European, chances are you have enjoyed perogies at least once in your life. But what does it mean to be Ukrainian Canadian? The same question could be asked for any number of cultural backgrounds that make up the people of Canada.
Kateryna and Havrylo is a play still in its beginning stages by Dr. Claire Borody. With help from Rachel Smith, she will be looking at combining folk tales and other stories with research about the Ukrainian culture to develop a play about Ukrainian Canadian identity.
